maybe someday

If I only was small enough, I would make this little terrarium my home.
I think I would have a very happy life.

tattle tale

It's hard being seven years old! Here are some things of the things my students have been going through lately that they have felt the need to tell me through our "tattle tale box."

Danil said doggone when he was running back to his seat. -Alex

Well that is by far the worst thing I have ever heard.

Robert said stop it to me for no eternol reson [reason]. -Alex

Yeah, that one doesn't surprise me, unfortunately.

John called jacob JakeJake and then shaked his pencil in amber's face. From: Amanda

He shaked his pencil in someone's face?! It's the end of the world!

Alex keps saying stop! And evrey single day he says stop it Daniel! and then he makes a racket.
-Amanda

I know. It's driving me nuts too.

Daniel side [said] You wowend [ruined] my drink. Amber

I'm guessing you didn't "wowen" it like he accused you of doing?

I know Macie is telling on me becaese she told me at reses - it was on acsident she made faces at I I told plesase stop 18 times and she did not tell you. Amber thank you

I want to say that it's impossible to accidentally make faces, but sometimes I think I do that. However, the fact that you are claiming to have counted the number of times you asked her to stop kind of makes this whole situation difficult to believe.

Daniel made a strang face at me I men [mean] it ! Amber

Ok, now that you said I mean it, I will believe you.

Alix always goes in the bathroom with the door. -Daniel

You mean instead of using the urinal? I think I'm ok with that.

Lilly roat [wrote] my name like this John   John

How evil!

Jacob put a paper into the tatle tale box when I didden do eny thing John

Really, you tattled on someone for tattling on you?

sometimes i think i teach myself

The other day I read a story from a book of fables to my students about a little dog who finds a gold button. My students were so completely enthralled, no one moved even the tiniest bit. (Which was soooo nice.)

At the end of each fable is a saying that summarizes the lesson to be learned. When I got to the end of this particular story and read that saying out loud, I got the strangest feeling that our souls had just been fed. As if to confirm this, Jeremiah looked up at me and said, "Oooh, that was good." I completely agreed. And this was the moral of the story:

santa barbara on a whim

On Friday after school, I called Kirsten to chat. She told me to come down to Santa Barbara... so I did! I threw some clothes in my weekend bag, hopped in the car, and used all the cash in my wallet to fill up my tank and hit the road.

Lots of sun, pizza, wine, really good girl talk, and a great night at the harbor at 1 a.m. It was perfection.

molding young minds

Today I decided to inspire my students with a few half-truths.

During math time, I didn't have anything except dried lima beans to demonstrate how to multiply by three. So I told my students the beans were magic beans. They bought it and LOVED it and begged me to let them take one home.

Then, when I noticed that a few of my kids have been slacking during journal writing time, I told them that if they didn't write in their journals, they wouldn't become good writers, and that only good writers can go to college. One student literally responded by saying, "Ooh, I want to go to college; I'm going to college; I'm gonna write."

wishing i was five years old

I know I'm not a flower girl, but I want to do my hair like this!

I think I am going to use Crazy Hair Day as an excuse to try one of these huge flower headbands out during Spirit Week at school.

the hike

To cheer myself up, I took my students on a hike up the hills behind our school.

The sky was so blue, and the clouds were so fluffy, and the hills were so green!

Most of the time they hunted for "crystals" and caught ladybugs.

They said it was the best day ever, and I agree!

wishful thinking or brilliant idea?

Don't you wish these were available for prescription? I think it would simplify my life a lot sometimes.

Maybe I will invent them and make a small fortune to supplement my income... but at the moment, I must tend to Alex, who just got kicked out of music class.
